Baptism is the sacrament by which we welcome new members into our parish community and the universal Church. English language baptism of infants takes place at 10:00 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month except during Lent (no baptisms are celebrated during Lent).

Important to pre-register 2 weeks before the date of the baptism.

• Only pre-registered and approved families will be accepted

Requirements for sponsors:

• Once pre-registered you will be given the date and time of the baptismal talk.  (Required for parents and sponsors)
• Minimum age of sponsors: 16 years.
• Sacraments: in order to serve as godfather or godmother, you must be baptized according to the form or rite of the Roman Apostolic Catholic Church, have done the First Communion, and be confirmed.
• Godparents: If the godparents are a couple and are living together, they have to be married by the Church. If they are not a couple with each other, but individually living as a couple with someone else without being married to the Church, they cannot be godparents. If the couple is married only civilly or only by law, they cannot be sponsors, either as a couple, or individually. If it's 2 people they have to be (he)-(she) -- they can't be 2 (he)-- (She).

In this parish of St. Matthew, we baptize children under 8 years of age. After the age of 8, to be baptized, they have to participate in religious formation by enrolling in catechism. For more information please call the religious education office at 562-434-6402

Adult baptisms are handled through the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) program .

El bautismo es el sacramento por el cual nuestra comunidad parroquial recibe los nuevos miembros de la Iglesia Católica. Los bautismos de niños en español se celebran el primer  sábado de cada mes, excepto durante Cuaresma (no se celebran bautismos durante Cuaresma).

Importante pre-registrar en la rectoría un mes antes de la fecha del bautizo

• Presentar una FOTO COPIA de acta de nacimiento del niño(a) que va a ser bautizado(a).

• Solamente se aceptarán familias pre-registradas y aprobadas a las pláticas bautismales.

• Una vez pre-registrado se le dará la fecha y horario de la plática bautismales. (Necesaria para padres y padrinos)
• Edad mínima de los padrinos: 16 años.
  Sacramentos: para poder servir como padrino o madrina, tiene que estar bautizado/a según la forma o rito de la iglesia católica apostólica romana, haber hecho la Primera Comunión, y estar confirmado/a.
• Padrinos: 
  • Si los padrinos son pareja y están viviendo juntos, tienen que estar casados por la Iglesia. Si entre sí no son pareja, pero individualmente está viviendo como pareja con alguien más sin estar casados por la Iglesia, no pueden ser padrinos. Si la pareja está casada solo por lo civil o solo por la ley, no pueden ser padrinos, ni como pareja, ni individualmente. Si son 2 personas tienen que ser (el)-(ella) --no pueden ser 2 (ellos)- (ellas)
     

• Copia de el acta de nacimiento del niño
• Copia del comprobante de los sacramentos del patrocinador.
• Si los patrocinadores están casados, copia del certificado de matrimonio en la Iglesia Católica
