After receiving instruction, lectors proclaim the Word of God at Mass and at other liturgical celebrations. Always mindful of the significance of their role, they diligently prepare for it and proclaim God's message with sincerity and Joy.

We shall go with joy to the house of the Lord. (Psalm 122)
The phrase above characterizes the spirit of the Altar Server who, carrying the cross in the Entrance procession of the Mass, epitomizes the spirit of joy that pervades the assembly. How good it is to be here, united in Christ and with one another!
Before Mass the Sacristan prepares the altar and worship space. Altar Servers assist the Presider during the liturgy, including processing in and out of the service with the crucifix, holding the Sacramentary for the opening and closing prayers, or caring for the cups used at Holy Communion. This role is open to both women and men in our parish and we particulalry encourage teenagers to serve in this way.

Sing to the Lord a new Song. (Psalm 98)
What a joy it is to praise God, especially when we come together at Mass, listening and responding to the Word of God and celebrating Eucharist. Music Ministers invite the participation of the faithful and in doing so fulfill the Second Vatican Council's call to "full, concious, and active participation" in the liturgy.
St. Matthew's Parish has several choirs that serve our weekend masses. At English Masses the Peace Choir and the Joyful Noise Choir sing in a more contemporary style, while the Liturgical Choir sings in both traditional and contemporary hymnns. At Spanish Masses, several different corales lead the congregation. In addition to our choirs we have cantors who lead the assembly in song at Masses, weddings, funerals, reconcilliation and other prayer services.
Parishioners wishing to join one of the parish's choirs are encourgaed to speak to our Choir Director, Dr. Alina Artemova following Mass or a prayer service.
Take this, all of you and eat it: this is my body which will be given up for you. Take this, all of you and drink it: this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant. It will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven. Do this in memory of me. (With these words, Jesus instituted the Eucharist, which is to be shared by all belivers)
At our Sunday liturgies as well as at the daily Masses, Eucharistic Ministers of the altar help distribute Holy Communion to the assembled. Eucharistic Ministers to the sick bring Holy Communion to twelve convalescent centers and individual homes. Through the loving care and concern of these ministers, those who are sick or homebound share in the banquest of the Lord. This beautiful ministry is an expression of Christ's love reaching out his loving hands, offering his consoling presence to those who are suffering.

We give you thanks, O God, we give thanks, and we invoke your name; we declare your wondrous deeds. (Psalm 75)
The Liturgy Committee exists to plan and implement beautiful liturgies with particular attention to liturgical environment, music, participation of the assembly, preaching, etc.
Our activities include planning and implementing celebrations for Sundays and major feast days, RCIA ceremonies, prayer services for Advent, Stations of the Cross during Lent, seasonal Penance Services, peace prayers, etc.
On Thanksgiving, we have a special bilingual Mass with a combined Spanish-English choir.
During the Presentation of the Gifts bread and wine are brought forward, as well as donations of food for the poor. Following Mass, these food donations are brought to St. Francis Center, Long Beach, where they are distributed to those in need.
